Why Physical Presence Matters in Business

One of the things I teach in Absolutely Sales is the importance of physical presence in the business world, especially in sales. With the emergence of social media platforms like TikTok, entrepreneurs may think that online presence is all they need to run a successful business.

On the contrary, physical presence is equally as crucial as online presence, and this is by no means referring to just having a physical office location or branches scattered all over the globe.

This physical presence is more about making the presence of your brand felt in the community that you live, work, serve, and operate in. It's about making a case for your brand or company most naturally and effectively.

Why Physical Presence Matter

  1. Reach: Word-of-mouth marketing is the most effective form of marketing and will continue to be the most effective way to get the word out. Selling exactly where your customers are is crucial, but your customers may be in multiple places - some online and others offline. A balance of online and physical presence will ensure maximum reach.

  2. Relationship and Trust: People will only do business with those they know and trust. Physical presence is a great way of building strong relationships and customer trust. For example, Microsoft has student ambassadors in universities across Canada. These students set up booths and kiosks, educating other students on products, new releases, etc. Though they may not necessarily be selling any products, their interaction with the campus community builds credibility and trust and creates even more brand awareness for the company.

  3.  Free Recruitment: Being integrated into the community you serve is a recipe for success. Members of the same communities serve each other, help each other, and support each other. When you serve the community, they will, in turn, serve you. Whether it's supporting a charity in town or volunteering to help clean up ocean shores, it is critical to impact communities positively. People in the community will support your business and help recruit new customers free of charge.
